How to delete pre-installed apps from Nokia Asha phones(501, 500, 502, 503, 230)

remove pre installed apps from nokia asha 501

Its a good news for Asha Platform 1.0 users. After a long wait, A website Nokia Experts have came up with a trick to remove Pre-installed apps from Asha 5XX phones( 501, 500, 502, 503, 230). These phones have a major issue of low phone memory and this memory keeps on decreasing time to time. The users are forced to reset the phone after the memory reaches the limit. So the users must reset the phone once in every 2-3 months, for its smooth working.
Now with this new trick, you can uninstall/remove all those apps that came with the software update. These include Nimbuz, LinkedIn, Line, Wechat, Nokia Chat, Pocket apps etc. By removing, you can save upto 15-20MB of internal storage in your device. It will be a good idea to remove all apps  as you can install a ‘removable’ version later from Store. In this trick, a webpage bookmark is edited in which the path is changed, and the path leads to a hidden folder in the phone memory where you can see all files to be deleted. So before going onto the steps, I highly recommend you to take a backup of your settings as you will need to reset the phone in the last step.
The method below is tested in Asha 501 and is found 100 percent working. So even if you failed in the first try, don’t worry. I only did it in my second try. In any case, I won’t be responsible if any damage happen to your phone(trust me, nothing’s gonna happen).

STEPS

First and foremost, you should have a text file in your memory card. You can transfer a text file from your PC or create with some apps. You can also create a text file online. To do this, open UC Browser and open this link(http://editpad.org) and download it to memory card.
* Rename the file to test.html using UC Browser’s file manager(menu>downloads>option>file manager).
* Close UC Browser and open In-built file manager.
* Open test.html and Xpress browser opens with a blank page.
* Swipe options and add to favourites.
* Now open favourites. Long press on the recently saved favourite and Edit Favourite.
* In the Address field, replace the text with “ file:///system_files/_system_applications/ “ .Now Save and close the browser.
nokia xpress browser screenshot
* Again, open test.html with the In-built file manager.
* Now in Xpress browser, open the previous favourite. It will pop up an error (Not Enough Memory).
* Now swipe up the options menu and select Add to home.
Thats it, if you have done it right, there will be a new icon at the bottom of your home screen. Opening it will lead you to a hidden storage in the phone where all the pre-installed applications are saved. You can now delete the .JAR and .JAD files of apps that you wish to remove.

NOTE: If you deleted the files of Xpress browser, don’t worry. You can easily download it from download.browser.ovi.com
If you failed to do it in the first try you can also refer this page for a better understanding or just inform us in the comment section below or just connect with us on Facebook.

How to open hidden task manager to clear RAM and improve performance of your phone; Nokia Asha

asha-503-task-manager
Source- The Mobile Indian

Nokia Asha phones that run on the New Nokia Asha Platform comes pre-installed with a bunch of apps that uses much of its internal memory. There are ways to remove pre-installed apps in older Asha phones but no working method  has been found yet for the phones running the new Asha OS.  With the last major OTA update, Nokia has removed some of the useless games and has included many other apps. And these can’t be removed. Although this was a good move from their part but each users have their own tastes and preferences. The list of these default apps include Line, Wechat, Linkedin, Twitter, Nimbuz, OneDrive, NewsHunt and some utility apps like Pocket Word, Pocket Excel etc. Many users find these useless as for a normal person LinkedIn is not necessary. Many don’t use Whatsapp, Wechat, Line and Nimbuz at a time. Many don’t feel it good to view documents in a 3” inch screen and the Pocket apps(Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are not efficient enough to do their job. So all these factors make these apps useless and wastage of memory and makes the phone's menu look crowded.

The messenger apps eat up a lot of RAM in the phone and by 'Lot of RAM', i meant the limited 64MB RAM. With the last update, the software got pushed to 14.0.4 in which the RAM management in the phone got improved. Now a simple task manager pops up with the option to close the apps that are currently running in background. Apps like Whatsapp and Xpress Browser always run in background once opened. This will remain opened till you switch off or restart the phone. So while using some apps like Wechat, Nimbuzz or browsing in UC browser, the heap memory decreases after some time and the task manager pops up. In this situation, you must close all the apps shown there to clear memory. This prevents the phone from getting overloaded. But Its quite annoying as we were in the middle of something and now we need to close the browser. The task manager can't be opened manually. It opens itself when a situation arises. So we are not able to check what all apps are opened in the background.

The new TASK MANAGER app given an end to this problem. The app helps to open the hidden task manager in the phone thus enabling us to close all background running apps whenever we want. In my opinion, this is a handy and a must-have app in your phone. I recommend you to save the file in the phone memory of your phone so that app will still be there even if you remove the memory card. Saving in the phone's limited memory won't harm you in an way, because the app is just 16kb in size!
[ Please note that this is an app that runs only in Nokia devices running Asha Platform 14.0.4 or higher; Nokia 501, 500, 502, 503 and 230  ]

How to open PDF files in your Nokia Asha

pdf reader asha 503

Portable Document Format, popularly known as PDF documents, is a file format developed by Adobe Systems. It looks like a printed document and can be viewed in Adobe Reader, a free application from Adobe Systems itself. PDF files are especially useful for documents such as magazine articles, product brochures, or flyers in which you want to preserve the original graphic appearance.

Now PDF readers are available for smartphones as well. You can completely view and edit any PDF file if you are on the go. Adobe Reader is also officially available for all major mobile operating systems including Andriod, Windows Phone, iOS, Symbian etc. But if you are using a series 40 based phone(like a Nokia Asha phone), there are no efficient PDF readers available yet. Although there are apps like eZReader, mobilePDF, PDF Viewer, RJ PDF Reader etc available for download, these apps can’t load files greater than 1MB, also they dont even get opened in the new Nokia Asha Platform(they never worked for me). While surfing internet with our mobile, at some point of time, we might have encountered with a PDF file and wondered how to open it. Like the invoice we receive from Flipkart after a purchase or the phone’s user guide or a novel. So here are some tutorials on how to read PDF files in your phone apart from using a mobile PDF reader.

Using an E-Book reader

alb
Albite Reader is actually a mobile Ebook reader for java mobiles developed by Svetlin Ankov, that supports .txt, .epub files. To read PDF files in this Ebook reader, you need to convert it to .epub format. There won’t be any images in the converted file, but this is the best way for reading novels and stories in your mobile. Don’t worry about the conversion part as you don’t need any PC for that, you can convert it online instead. PDFPOCKET is a free online service that helps you convert PDF to EPUB online. After the download, you can open the file in Albite Reader and enjoy.
Try some PDF novels from here, convert it and read in Albite reader[ DOWNLOAD ]

Read PDF files online

iv2
InvokeVirtual now allows to read PDF files online in your mobile browser. They also provide other services including removing ads, extract .zip files, .rar files read .doc(x) files etc. You can read your pdf file online with InvokeVirtual. Visit here.

Convert PDF to Images

If you still prefer to read your file without loosing the images, you can download each page as an image so that you can simply open it in your phone’s gallery and zoom in to read. The only drawback is that large pdf files will be hundreds of images to download. Visit here to convert your files.

Open in your Gmail account

Gmail also provides an option to view PDF in your mobile browser. Upload the file to your account or send the PDF file from another account to your account. You can find a ‘View Html’ option at the bottom of the mail, beside the download option. This will do the trick. But as this is a basic html view, there won’t be any images shown.

Do you know/use any method other than these to open PDF files in your mobile? Do let us know. Feel free to drop a messege to our Facebook page.
Sharing is caring ! so share this with your friends.

How to Remove Advertisements from Apps/Games in Asha 5XX phones

asha 501 no more ads in gamesNokia Asha OS is a much advanced version of Nokia’s Series 40 OS for feature phones. These phones are equipped with the features of smartphones at the price that fits everybody’s budget. This revolutionary move by Nokia started with the launch of Asha 501 and now has 5 variants in this row. Tons of apps are available for this platform in Nokia Store. Nokia is providing a huge opportunity for developers to reach the world. Store has a wide reach all over the world and helps developers to attain downloads for their products. There are mainly three methods for developers to earn,
  1. 1. A paid app
  2. 2. A free app with in-app payment
  3. 3. A free app
Apart from these, a developer can include Ads in his app. This is also a major source of income for the developer. With this feature , the app/game will display an advertisement when the user opens the app. But to run the app, it requires a working internet connection. In case of games, The game can’t be played if there is no data pack active. And for a user of a budget phone like Asha, will find it hard to use data packs as the network providers are making it costlier day by day. And these useless advertisements irritates me a lot too.

So this is a tutorial to remove the Advertisements and skip to the game directly. This can be done in three easy steps, completely in the mobile itself. I strongly recommend you to use use UC Browser (Download) for this.

Steps for removing Ads. from Apps/Games

First and foremost, create a new folder in your memory card, say My Folder.
(If you are in UC Browser now, you can create a New Folder without closing it.
Simply go to Downloads > Menu > FileManager > Memorycard > create New Folder)

1. Open Nokia Store in a new tab in UC Browser. Search for the Game you wish to remove ads. For example, Let the game’s name be AngryBirds and press . In the ‘Download Notice’ page press SAVE and save it to My Folder. Now you have downloaded the JAD file of the Game and it will be downloaded as ‘AngryBirds_240x320_jad’. Now close the tab.

download screenshot uc browser

2. Open this LINK in a new tab and upload the file (AngryBirds_240x320_jad) to its server. You will get a link to download the JAR file of the game (AngryBirds_240x320.jar) in the next page. Now download the file just like you downloaded the JAD file, save it to MyFolder. Wait for the file to get fully downloaded and the file will be named like ‘AngryBirds_240x320_jar’. Now close the tab.

3. Open this LINK in new tab and upload the jar file to the site. Wait sometime for the file to get uploaded and in the next page you can download the file ‘AngryBirds_240x320_Ad_Removed_jar.

screenshot uc browser asha 501

Now simply rename the file (AngryBirds_240x320_Ad_Removed_jar) to (AngryBirds_240x320_Ad_Removed.jar). Before you close the browser and start playing your game, Please like us on facebook !!

Install Facebook App in Landscape Mode in Full-Touch Asha Phones

asha cute 501 vivek landscape facebook
Hello everybody, here I am posting on "How to make your Facebook app landscape?" Well, sadly, this method cannot be done to the official Facebook app that came pre-installed with the device as it is a signed version and the .jar file cannot be accessed from the phone memory. So here I have used a handler app of an old version which works perfectly in the phone. As this is an old version, the official app don’t mess with this one so you are able to use two facebook apps in your phone which is very helpful for those maintaining two facebook accounts at a time. The new Asha phones has got a really good keyboard but the 3" scren ruins the fun of typing. But you can type freely if you hold it horizontally.

The method  is so simple and can be done with the help of a computer. As i have provided the app below for you to download, I will explain briefly. Unpack the .jar file to a folder and open the MANIFEST.MF in notepad. Now include one more line, “Nokia-MIDlet-App-Orientation: landscape”. Now save the file and carefully repack all the files to a .zip file and rename it to jar format. This can make the app run in landscape mode.

But what I have done here is a little more intresting. If you hold your phone in portrait mode and open the app, the app opens normally in portrait mode and if you hold it horizontally and open the app, it will open in Landscape mode. Instead of using “Landscape” in the code, I have used “Manual” which is making the app so cool. The code is “Nokia-MIDlet-App-Orientation: manual”. The app makes use of the proximity sensor and open accordingly to the phones position. The boring Facebook icon is also changed and I have used the icon of Facebook-Home app for Android. I know, now you can’t wait to modify the app.
nokia asha 501 modified facebook app nokia asha 501 landscape facebook   nokia asha 501 facebook icon home

As I've said earlier, App has been uploaded for you to download. Follow the steps carefully to download.sorry for these low-quality screenshots.

NB: THE MENTIONED APP IS SUCCESFULLY INSTALLED AND WORKED ON MY NOKIA ASHA 501 DUAL-SIM. I WONT BE RESPONSIBLE IF ANY MISHAPPENINGS OCCUR TO YOUR PHONE. DOWNLOAD AT YOUR OWN RISK.

hahaha..chill brothers.. believe me I have been using this app for the last 3-4 months
And once again i am concluding with the steps  to follow in order to get the app.

1. Open the below icon with UC BROWSER(recommended) or OPERA MINI
2. Press DOWNLOAD
3. Press SAVE (not OPEN)
4.Select a folder in your memory card or phone memory
5. Press OK
6. Make sure the download is full and close the browser
7. Navigate to the downloaded file (fbmod_by_vivek_jar)
8. Long press on the file and RENAME it to (fbmod_by_vivek.jar)
9.Now open the file, it will get installed.
10. Now open Facebook app and enjoy.
(HOLD YOUR PHONE STRAIGHT TO OPEN IT IN PORTRAIT MODE, HOLD IT HORIZONTALLY TO OPEN IN LANDSCAPE MODE and remember to untick “Show On Start” which comes in the first screen after installing).
